Pre-work for This Class:

There are a few things you will need to do to prepare for delicious @ the Reference Desk:

  1. View "Social Bookmarking in Plain English."
  2. Create a delicious account. (If you do not already have one, that is).
  3. As part of your account setup, install the delicious buttons and toolbar in your browser. You may need to get permission from your supervisor, or system's administrator to do this. If you don't have Internet Explorer, you need to install the correct buttons for the browser that you are using.
  4. Read this selection from delicious.com's FAQ page about tags. (You may need to scroll to find the section).
  5. Add a comment to this blog when you have completed these tasks. PLEASE provide your "In Real Life" name AND your delicious account name in your comment.

Your pre-work is complete once you have performed these tasks.

On the day of the class, please try to show up 10 - 15 minutes early if possible. We will begin promptly at 10AM, and there is a lot to cram into our one hour together. Connection information is available in your Participant's Guide. If you have any difficulty connecting, please contact the producer to let us know your status, and so we can try to get up up and running in time for the class.

My name is Peggy Malasky from Caroline County Public Library and my delicious account name is pegmal. My account was still active from 23 things and this made the pre-work easier. The class of 23 things was fun, but since I was working on my graduate degree there was not much time to have fun with the site. It looks like delicious will be very useful and I will enjoy exploring all the possibilites.

My name is Kathy Bastian from Howard County Library and my delicious account name is kathymb. I also did 23 Things, but since most of the Web 2.0 technology was new to me, a lot of things were (and still are) a bit hazy. Even though I was introduced to tags then, I am beginning to get a better understanding of them now, and am sure that Wednesday's class will go even further towards solidifying that understanding. Thanks, and see you Wednesday morning!

My name is Debbie Kempner from Howard County Library. I am Kathy Bastian's coworker. My delicious account name is dkempner. I did 23 things back in 2007. I really didn't have much time to spend on each item in 23 things and I do not use this technology everyday so my understanding is very very basic. I think delicious will be very useful because now my children, husband and friends can see and use my bookmarks. Working in Information, I find a lot of interesting sites and by bookmarking them on delicious, I will be able to use them on any computer, not just my work computer. I look forward to start the class on Wednesday.

My name is Debby Bennett from Caroline County Public Library. Like others, I had a login from 23 Things. I couldn't remember my login info, so created a new login, then found my old login when I saved a url and saw my old posting. So, I learned how to delete a login. My delicious account is dabennett1996. The assignment was really helpful. I saw Kathymb's delicious postings and sent 2 to pegmal. As with all of this, I have to use it and explore with it to get more comfortable with it. I like the samples, esp Pratt's for practical library use.

Trina Panagos here from FCPL. Unlike the previous folks I did not do 23 Things (tsk, tsk!) although I should have. I took this class to learn a bit more not only about delicious but also to observe and learn from Annette how she is using a blog to supplement her online classes. Thanks for letting me peek over your shoulder Annette :) My delicious account name is tpanagos.

Hi! My name is Debra Mattingly from Anne Arundel County Public Library. I am working on the Web 2.0 exploration for our county which is 9 of the original 23 plus there are 3 optional ones to work on. I've used delicious some. I actually have a personal account and a work account since AACPL is looking at how to use delicious at our reference desks. So this class should be very beneficial for me and I am looking forward to learning more about delicious. My personal account is dbmatt and my work one is aacplnco.

Hi I'm yet another Deb from Anne Arundel County. You'll see me logged in as Curious Claudia. I too did a little investigating of delicious as part of 23 things, but I really didn't 'get' it. I'm hoping this class will open my eyes to why I really need to use it!
